Adobe recently held exclusive live seminars in Johannesburg and Cape Town to demonstrate how using Adobe Acrobat 9 software 'helps make your work look just as good as the work you put into it'.

In Focus attended the Johannesburg seminar, held at the Venue in Melrose Arch, with the intention of remaining abreast of the latest Acrobat 9 technology, which offers users a myriad of new features and innovations.

Issues covered included how to:

  • Create presentations that persuade without a presenter;
  • Share your work with the confidence that anyone can view it given the right to do so;
  • Put nearly anything engaging into your PDF even, audio, video, animation, and navigation; and
  • Transform your everyday work into extraordinary work and stand out from the crowd.

The speakers included Mohammed Jogie, Adobe Design Evangelist, MEA and MED;
Simon Bromfield, Adobe Channel Manager, Africa; Tys Seyffert, Adobe Enterprise Solution Engineer, Africa; and Mark Dorfling, Adobe Enterprise Channel Manager, Africa.

In essence, Adobe Acrobat 9 comprises a family of three editions, Pro Extended, Pro and Standard, each version offering the basic functionality but with extended options. The basic offering covers the ability to:

  1. Share your ideas
  2. Control you work
  3. Work better with everyone
  4. Simplify Form Creation

Sharing your ideas means you are able to create PDF documents with one button ease from Microsoft Office and share work with team members, regardless of software or operating systems. Several other features are also offered which include:

  • Acrobat 9 is able to convert almost any file to a polished PDF file;
  • PDF Portfolios make it easy to organise a wide variety of files, documents, drawings, email, spreadsheets and rich media, including video, audio, 3D and maps;
  • Adobe Presenter software livens up Microsoft PowerPoint slides and helps create engaging interactive presentations; and
  • Native support for Adobe Flash- technology enables sharing of video and animations easily across platforms.

Control your Work.  This offers protection for sensitive information with digital signature technology with additional benefits:

  • Password protection and 256-bit encryption to keep privileged information from getting into the wrong hands;
  • Documents permissions - ability to limit what recipients can do with your PDF file; and
  • Redaction tools, which makes it easy to find and permanently remove sensitive information.

Working better with everyone. This offers the ability to get feedback on your work from your entire team, who are able to view and respond as comments are being made. You're also able to have the advantage of:

  • Familiar commenting tools such as sticky notes, highlighters, lines, shapes and stamps;
  • Synchronised documents views that help get colleagues, clients and partners on the same page at the same time to co-navigate documents; and
  • Share document reviews capture all the team comments and feedback in one efficient electronic format.

Simplify Form Creation takes the hassle out of creating electronic forms which can be filled in and saved electronically. This includes:

  • Electronic form creation which is fast and simple, and allows the ease to create fillable PDF forms from scans, existing PDF files, text documents or spreadsheets;
  • Form Wizard and Form Tracker, which make it simple to create, distribute and track forms, sort and filter responses and quickly export data; and
  • Users of free Adobe Reader software can fill in and save forms locally.

Demonstrator Jogie kept the large audience entertained with his polished and professional demonstrations as well as his quick wit. No doubt this latest Adobe offering will prove hugely popular with all those involved in communication and collaboration.
